Better Late Than Never

Today I’ve got a serious topic I would like to discuss, so I’d like to start with a bit of what I’m best at… Light-hearted one-sided conversation. Let’s do this! I’m quitting my job cause its horrible. I’ve got three days left, and then I am out of there!!!!!!!!!! Free from their oppressive reign of terror! Also, I finally started getting my stuff moved into my mom’s basement, and I’ve got a super good deal on the rent, lol. So that’s what’s going on with my life, and keeping busy has kept my mental issues pretty level, so it’s been a good deal. I hope you all are doing good, but on the topic of mental issues, I think it’s time to get on to my actual post.

I am a long-time super fan of the band Linkin Park. Their music has inspired me since I was a kid and has gotten me through some tough times. If you have been on Facebook in the past three days, you will also have heard that their lead singer and frontman Chester Bennington, committed suicide. It really made me sad.

I heard so many stories from friends and distant acquaintances that knew someone who attempted or committed suicide. And every time, it’s an outpouring of support from loved ones, the few awareness posts, and the devastation of those they left behind. Listen to me right now; If you never read my blog again, read this… This world is not better off without you. I don’t care what anyone else tells you, and I definitely don’t care what you’ve been telling yourself. This world needs you, and other people need you. If you’re feeling broken or hurt, I promise it will get better, and I promise that you are not alone.

Depression and suicide have been a big problem for a long time, but no one wants to talk about it!!! Sure, you’ll have the brief post here and there with the suicide hotline or these 24/7 helplines, and then suddenly, everyone just brushes it under the rug. As devastated as I was to hear about the death of one of my favorite singers. The outpouring of support these past three days has been truly inspiring. It was like someone flipped a switch, and suddenly the world seemed to realize how big of a problem this is. As incredible as it has been to see it and see people encouraging each other, I’m also pretty upset. I’m upset that this is what it took for people to understand that “hey, maybe this is a problem we need to deal with.”

These past few days, I’ve seen friends reaching out and letting people know they are here to talk no matter what. I’ve seen posts reminding me that it’s okay to not be okay. Another brand I love, Imagine Dragons, posted a beautiful video on their Facebook page about bullying. I’ve seen people encouraging other people that it’s okay to ask for help. For the first time in a long time, I saw people building each other up, supporting each other, and coming together to fight this epidemic. It’s been amazing, but I can’t help but be angry. Why did it have to come to this for people to finally take this seriously?

There is so much darkness in the world, and you often don’t see it till it’s directly over your head, blocking the sun. When it goes away, you forget about it like it was never there in the first place. We can’t stop all the bad things in this world, but we can help each other make it through the most messed-up days by being kind, supportive, and encouraging. Reach out; If we are all stuck here in this messed-up world, the least we can do is look out for each other. Be the friend you want to have or wish you had and just be kind. We can’t save the world, but wouldn’t it be great if we could make it a little bit better while we are here?

Sincerely,
LIBD
