This is a very spontaneous Whatever Wednesday because I usually write these ahead and post them when I am too busy to write anything new. Today I am writing on the fly, so be prepared for at least a few spelling or grammar errors. As I mentioned in my previous Whatever Wednesday post, I am terrible at writing. That is also why I write them ahead of time, so I can proofread them a few times before I post them. Anyway, I was coming home thinking about which Whatever Wednesday I can post and how I will need to write some more of them soon. That, in turn, got me thinking of what I should write about, and I was looking out the window at what a beautiful day it was……. That’s when it came to me. I know exactly what I want to write about, and I just couldn’t wait, so here it is!
I HATE camping. So much. I would rather read the dictionary in a cool air-conditioned room for an hour than go camping. I’m like the only person in my family who hates the outdoors, and sometimes people ask me, ‘why don’t you like being outside? Then I want to ask, why do they like being outside? What is the enjoyment of hiking, camping, and picnics where you have to fight over your food with flies and bugs? Also, It’s dirty outside, and you get sweaty and gross when you are out there for an extended period of time. This is an odd complaint given the time I have spent out at the barn with horses, but that is beside the point. Also, there’s no electricity or tv outside. Your only hope of passing the time, apart from being on your phone, is to talk to other people. But no one ever want’s to talk about kpop or a fantastic book I just read, or how horrible it was when Aiden died in Teen Wolf. Nope, no one wants to talk about anything exciting. Why don’t I want to be outside? Because inside is exactly the same as the outside, except there are no bugs or dirt, and there is air conditioning, a tv, and a couch that is 20 times more comfortable than any lawn chair. Also, inside is where the rest of them aren’t, and I don’t like being around other people for long periods, especially if it’s outside.
What is there to like about camping? It’s like being at home, only you’re not in your house, you don’t have running water or flush toilets, and most of the food we ate was all meals I HATED. Like they picked out everything I wouldn’t want to eat, and that was the menu for the entire time we were gone. The best vacation was when the weather was too bad to stay at the campground, and we had to stay in a hotel. Best 2 days in the history of family vacations.
Hiking….. Ewwww. We walk through the woods, getting eaten alive by bugs with nothing to look at except the same trees and flowers we’ve seen every year. And then, once we get far enough, we turn around and go back the way we came so that I can see everything that I didn’t care about for a second time for maximum misery.
My parents loved going on bird walks also. If you’ve never been on a bird walk, it’s where you wake up at an ungodly hour, so you look and listen to birds, some of which we have back home, mind you. But you can fangirl about it with other bird lovers. To this day, I dislike birds out of sheer spite.
The only redeeming quality about camping is that sometimes we see bears, moose, or elk. That was fun because I love animals, specifically animals I don’t usually get to see. So at least I had that ten to twenty minutes on every weeklong camping trip that I enjoyed. I feel like I enjoyed it all a little back then, but to this day, I cannot figure out how I enjoyed any part of camping. Maybe because I didn’t know back then that there were people who didn’t go camping, I didn’t know what I was missing out on.
If you want me to go camping, there better be air conditioning, flush toilets, phone service, and a tv, or I will not be going. At that point, it’s not even camping anymore, but that’s the whole point I’m trying to make. I hope my family doesn’t read this, but I don’t think they read my blog anyway, so I should be safe. I’m seriously the odd one out in my family.
Until next time…..
